When you step inside Active Massage and off the busy Wānaka streets, you’ll realise that this is a massage studio like no other. Yes, you will see crisp linens and massage tables, smell essential oils and hear music playing – the familiar hallmarks of a high-end massage clinic. It won’t take a second glance, however, to see the personal and thoughtful touches: items that hold stories, waiting to be told; a full and eclectic bookshelf, begging to be examined and nick-knacks that you’ll pore over. Ours is a space that is as unique and distinctive as our treatments: immaculate and professional, personal and welcoming.
The story of Active Massage begins with founder and owner, Gray Campbell. Hailing originally from the US, Gray passed the Florida State Board of Massage Therapy exam in 1996 and spent many years providing treatments at the Ritz Carlton, Palm Beach. Gray moved to Wānaka in 2005 and in 2008 established Active Massage as a one-woman operation in a single-room gym studio.
Much like the town in which Gray and her family live, Active Massage has grown organically in size over the years. Gray now supports a large number of highly qualified and experienced therapists to work alongside her in the professional setting of this central Wānaka massage studio.
Our connections to Wānaka run deep. The community welcomed Gray with open arms and this philosophy of welcome lies at the heart of Active Massage. We make a point of supporting local businesses across all aspects of our operations, we proudly support charitable events such as The Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and we go out of our way to ensure that visitors to our town feel the same Wānaka welcome that was extended to Gray.
Our commitment to Wānaka extends to the environment as much as the people. Our studio is passionate about providing a high level of professionalism, an awareness of the impact it has on the environment and a customer centric approach. We have recently audited our carbon footprint and we have made meaningful changes where we can, to ensure we tread ever more lightly.
